Fortnite Infinity Blade to Receive Nerf in 7.10 Update

The last major content update for Season 7 of Fortnite Battle Royale saw Epic Games add the mythic weapon the Infinity Blade to the new Season 7 location of Polar Peaks. Granting the player using the Infinity Blade 200 health, 200 shield, increased material harvesting, increased movement speed and powerful attacks, the Fortnite Infinity Blade is one of the most powerful weapons to ever be added to the popular battle royale game. However, a large section of the community for Fortnite have not taken a liking to the Infinity Blade, as they feel it is too powerful and have called for its removal or a major nerf. This reaction by the community has prompted Epic Games to apply a nerf to the weapon in the future 7.10 update.

Fortnite Infinity Blade Nerf - 7.10 Update

Taking to the official Fortnite Battle Royale subreddit, Epic Games announced that it will be applying a nerf to the recently added weapon in the 7.10 update that will see the ability to build and harvest materials with the mythic weapon equipped disabled.

The Fortnite developer went to to state that it will continue to monitor the sword and make any other changes it feels are necessary. Epic Games explained that it decided to apply this nerf in the upcoming Fortnite 7.10 update for the Infinity Blade in order to help balance out the risk and reward for Fortnite players who decide to use the mythic weapon.

"The change we’re currently planning for the Infinity Blade in our v7.10 update is to remove the ability to build and harvest when wielding the Blade," said Epic Games regarding the new nerf. "When designing the Infinity Blade the goal was to provide a weapon with inherent risk to balance out the great capability it provides - the ability to harvest/build removes a great deal of that risk. By taking away the ability to harvest/build we hope to tune the Infinity Blade to where it feels risky to have, but still satisfying to wield."

"The presence of Mythic items in gameplay is to provide an interaction a step above the Legendary item functionality and something you’ll continue to see. To us, that means changing the way the game is played for those who interact with that item," Epic Games continued. "The addition of items in this tier provide new and flavorful ways to interact with the map and generally shake up normal play across default modes. We’ll have some more info with regards to our competitive philosophy when it comes to new items, updates and seasons within Fortnite early next week."

With the nerf to the ability to build and harvest materials while having the Fortnite Infinity Blade equipped scheduled to be applied in the 7.10 update, only time will tell if this nerf is enough to change the large negative reaction that many members of the community have had towards the Infinity Blade.
