LCS Spring Split Week 5 Recap & Rankings
By Jem Alexander ·
Did the dominant stay dominant? Are the bottom teams making moves? From Team Liquid to OpTic, check out everything that happened in Week 5 of the LCS Spring Split!

Week 5 of the Spring Split saw the top three teams confidently establishing their positions at the top of the table, while the mid-tier teams merge together in a clump at joint 5th place. That said plenty of room for movement here and no one is safe. Not even Team Liquid. Here's how Week 5 went down and where every team landed when the dust settled.
Team Liquid (1st 9w-1l)
Once again, Team Liquid emerge victorious from both of their games this week. There’s no big surprise there, since both Echo Fox and 100 Thieves are middle of the pack teams. The only team they’ve lost against this Split is TSM, who are seeing a resurgence after a middling start. Next week’s games against OpTic Gaming and CLG could cement their lead.
Cloud9 (2nd 8w-2l)
Cloud9’s confident performances against Flyquest and CLG (against whom they lost just a few weeks ago) places them 2nd in the standings, just behind Team Liquid. It will be a couple of weeks before these two teams face off against each other, but in the meantime they both need to keep their winning streaks going to prove themselves the kings of the LCS.
TSM (3rd 6w-4l)
TSM have well and truly redeemed themselves for those early few weeks in the Split, winning in both their games this weekend. Sitting pretty at third place in the standings, the team isn’t quite taking over the LCS, but they’re working their way up the table. Next week they face off against Cloud9, who currently reside in second place. That’s going to be one to watch for sure.
Flyquest (4th 5w-5l)
It’s not been a good week for Flyquest, who lost against both Cloud9 and TSM. Thankfully, both of those teams are top-tier, meaning Flyquest haven’t fallen far down the table. Currently at 4th place, they hold dominion over the other mid-tier teams, but if they keep losing games it won’t be long before they tumble to the bottom. They’ll need to bring their A-game next week against CLG and OpTic Gaming.
CLG (=5th 4w-6l)
CLG is currently joint 5th in the standings with three other teams. Their games against Cloud9 and TSM didn’t go great but there’s scope for growth here. They’ve proven that they have the potential to climb out of the 5th-place tie, but it’s still sad to see a team once regarded as the best in the region languishing in the middle of the table.
Echo Fox (=5th 4w-6l)
Two losses for Echo Fox, against both Team Liquid and Golden Guardians, puts them at level pegging with three other teams. While no one is going to be too surprised that they lost against Team Liquid, that game against Golden Guardians has to hurt. If Echo Fox want to differentiate themselves from the other teams in the middle of the standings, they’ll need to win their games next week. One of which is against Clutch Gaming and the other… a tough match against TSM. Good luck, boys.
Golden Guardians (=5th 4w-6l)
One win and one loss makes this a so-so week for the Golden Guardians. A decisive win against Echo Fox lends them some kudos, but a brutal loss against Clutch Gaming is the last thing this team needs as we head into the second half of the Split.
OpTic Gaming (=5th 4w-6l)
After a couple of disastrous weeks, OpTic Gaming have bounced back with two wins. Though having said that, both were against the bottom teams from the standings, 100 Thieves and Clutch Gaming. And having said that, there’s only one win between the four teams in 5th place and the two in 9th. A win’s a win, but OpTic will need to keep the momentum going if they want to climb that leaderboard. Oh, and by the way, next week they’re up against Team Liquid, so their game will have to be on point.
100 Thieves (=9th 3w-7l)
100 Thieves aren’t having a great time this Split. With two more losses this week, against OpTic Gaming and Team Liquid, they find themselves at the bottom of the standings, in joint 9th place with Clutch Gaming. We had high hopes for this team coming into the Spring Split, but now isn’t the time to give up. There’s still time for them to break into the middle of the pack. They have the potential to win their games against Golden Guardians and Clutch Gaming next week, as long as they don’t let their defeat this weekend go to their heads.
Clutch Gaming (=9th 3w-7l)
It’s not a great sign when you find yourself joint last even after winning against Golden Guardians. Their loss against OpTic Gaming meant they slipped back down to the bottom of the standings with 100 Thieves, who they’ll be facing off against next week. At least that will break the tie...
