CWL Announce Ruleset Change Ahead of Atlanta Open
By Nicholas Barth ·
With the Call of Duty World League (CWL) Atalnta Open set to kick off in a week, the CWL has announced a major rule change that will affect the Atlanta based LAN event.

CWL Atlanta will be taking place from March 9th to the 11th at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia. With the lion’s share of the $200,000 prize pool and 25,000 pro points at stake, all 176 competing teams will be looking for a championship at the highly anticipated event. However, one strategy will not be able to be used by any of the teams, as the Call of Duty World League announced on the Competitive Call of Duty subreddit that a certain basic training will not be allowed at the upcoming LAN event.
“Hey CWL Fans,
I’d like to share a minor CWL ruleset update with everyone prior to CWL Atlanta. Starting on March 6th, the basic training “Duelist” will be restricted from CWL competition.
Duelist has been restricted for the same reason the “Rifleman” trait was - it provides a Sniper Rifle player with the ability to also dominate close range gunfights. Please note, this rule change will be in effect for CWL Atlanta.
Be sure to tune in next Friday, March 9th at 1PM EST for a new episode of Hot Mic – Pool Play matches start shortly after at 2PM EST. Catch all the action at Twitch.tv/CallofDuty.”
Duelist has been a topic of controversy in the professional Call of Duty community for the Call of Duty: WWII season, as it allows players to wield two pistols at one time. This allowed players to do a significant amount of damage in close quarters to the point where it was defeating submachine guns in fights. Seeing that Duelist was not helping to foster a fair and competitive environment, the CWL will not allow its use at CWL Atlanta or any future CWL events.
Now players will have to adjust to a meta that will no longer be seeing Duelist used, as they fight to be crowned champions of CWL Atlanta.
