Apex Legends Made an Estimated $92 Million in February

Launching onto the scene in February, the gaming world has been swept up in the hype of Respawn Entertainment's Apex Legends, and the earnings reflect that popularity.

In a bit of news that will surprise absolutely no one who is relatively connected to the video game world, market data reports suggest Respawn Entertainment’s Apex Legends made an estimated $92 million in the month of February. It's one of the most popular games the world over right now and with continual updates (like today's patch), Apex Legends isn't interested in letting go of a good thing.
The Fever Pays
The world was set ablaze with a fervor for Apex Legends last month. As folks like Ninja promoted the game, and Shroud proved his dominance in another battle royale on his stream, everyone at one point or another took notice.
It has been called the “most successful free-to-play launch ever” and thanks to market data research company SuperData, that is most likely an accurate title. Though it didn’t beat out the likes of Korea’s most popular game Dungeon Fighter Online, and Epic Game's Fortnite, it managed to reach top six on the PC games grossing chart.
SuperData reports that Apex Legends made an estimated $92 million from in-game spending across all of their available platforms. In a bit of a surprise, Apex Legends ranked two spots higher (at #4) on the console grossing charts. Perhaps this has to do with there being far less competition in the microtransaction world on consoles. Both rankings are extremely impressive for any game, let alone a game as young as Apex Legends.

Another EA Games' title, Anthem, had a pretty brilliant launch month despite poor reviews. SuperData reports that the game made over $3 million in in-game transactions, and over $100 million in digital sales. It ended February just above Apex Legends on the console earnings chart but didn't manage to crack the list on PC.
As of now, there isn’t a clear indication that the Apex Legends hype has simmered at all. In fact, March could very well top the launch month for Respawn’s crazy popular battle royale game. Just this last week, we saw the introduction of the game’s first battle pass. This clear invitation to spend more money, following in the current trend of online multiplayer games, was released on March 19th.
It may only cost a single premium in-game purchase, but a battle pass is a no-brainer for those able to work their way through the entire list of rewards. With this addition, it will be very interesting to see what the March numbers look like for Apex Legends, and whether or not they can repeat or top their launch hype earnings.
More updates to Apex Legends, including new Legends and what we can assume is an inevitable official Esports scene, are still ahead of us. But what a wild February it was for Respawn.
