G2 Esports' Mid-Laner Caps Wins LEC 2019 Spring MVP
By Wyatt Fossett ·
Luckily for Rasmus "Caps" Winther, his gamble to leave his Worlds 2018 finalists team to join G2 Esports has paid off, and the LEC has name him the MVP of 2019's Spring Split.

Coming into this season, everyone had their eyes on G2 Esports for one very specific reason, and that was Rasmus “Caps” Winther. Today, the LEC announced that Caps is the recipient of the 2019 Spring Split MVP award.
Last year, Caps was the star mid-laner for the Fnatic team that went all the way to the League of Legends World Championship Finals, where they would lose to Invictus Gaming. Being the team to have done something no one before them had (make it that far in Worlds), it was surprising that Caps would then announce that he was leaving his Fnatic team. For a team that already had a world-class mid-laner in Perkz no less.
G2 Esports was going to win the EU, no matter what it took. They moved their all-star mid-laner to the ADC role in order to make room for Fnatic’s Caps. The bet on Wunder, Jankos, Caps, Perkz and Mikyx paid off. G2 Esports went almost undefeated in the regular stage play of the 2019 Spring Split, and G2 easily handed Origen a 3-0 loss in the Quarterfinals to advance to the Grand Finals.
As a player, Caps hasn’t placed lower than first-place in EU as a region since the fall of 2017. The only placements outside of the gold medal spot have been at international events.
Right now, Caps and his killer G2 squad awaiting the 2019 Spring Split Grand Finals in Rotterdam, Netherlands. They will face the winner of the Fnatic and Origen. For a guide on how to watch all of the action from Rotterdam, we’ve got you covered.
“We said multiple times, that we wanted to peak in the playoffs. We wanted to be our best heading to Rotterdam,” said Caps in an interview after their win against Origen in the Quarterfinals. “I really want to face Fnatic, so I am cheering for them,” added Caps in reference to the Fnatic versus Origen Semifinals matchup on Saturday.
Caps is inarguably one of the best mid-laners to ever play the game, and we’re all very lucky to get to watch him outplay his opponents day-in and day-out on the LEC stage. G2 Esports’ reign on the EU region may not have been possible without Caps in their mid-lane, which makes him a crucial piece to the best team in the LEC.
G2 Esports will take the stage at the Rotterdam Ahoy arena on Sunday, April 14th.
