G2's Martin 'Wunder' Hansen Wins LEC Spring Finals MVP

On a team filled to the brim with talented superstars, it takes a really special solo-laner to stand out, and that's just what Wunder did in G2 Esports' win in the LEC Grand Finals.

With an astounding performance on Irelia in Game 1 and two games on Ryse in G2 Esports’ absolute destruction of Origen in the 2019 LEC Spring Split Grand Finals, top-laner Martin “Wunder” Hansen won the fan-vote for the Grand Finals MVP.
Wunder joined G2 in December of 2017 and the franchise has yet to win any “meaningful” hardware since. They have been able to capture first place at the Rift Rivals Event that saw North America versus Europe, and the EU Regional Finals to qualify for Worlds, where they would eventually get deleted by soon-to-be winners Invictus Gaming in the Semifinals.
After losing out early in the 2018 LEC Summer Split (back then called the EU LCS), G2 Esports shifted their team slightly in the offseason with aim at collecting a lot of hardware.
The new EU super-team truly made a statement in the first split of 2019. G2 dominated in the stage play, before going undefeated before G2 demolished Origen in the Grand Finals.
On Irelia in Game 1, Wunder held it down for G2. He went 6/4/6 with a gigantic bounty on his head by the end. Though, it was in Game 2 and Game 3 where Wunder would shine on his favorite mage Ryse. Wunder went 7/3/5 on Ryse in a game where G2 built a funnel composition. He easily could have been a steady pillar, but a non-factor. Instead, he helped run Origen into the ground.
Game 3 said a lot about the absurd strength that G2 possesses, and a lot of that came in the form of Wunder. Who, again on Ryse, went 2/1/3 in the shortest game in Finals history. Doing his best work right at the end, where he played attention bait for the opposition as his team broke into the enemy base and destroy their nexus.
In the Kia sponsored fan-vote for Finals MVP, G2 Esports’ top-laner took home the award post-series with a shocking 47% of the vote.

Surprisingly, the dangerous but usually underappreciated top-laner Wunder beat out fan-favorites in Team Captain Perkz, and 2019 LEC Spring Split MVP Caps.
Immediately after their victory over Origen to win the LEC Spring Split, every member of G2 had already flipped their sights and the conversation to their berth at the Mid-Season Invitational.
“We were thinking about MSI quite a bit before, like what we were going to do with a boot camp,” Wunder said. “But now it's a reality, so it's pretty exciting. Playing against the number one teams from each reason. This will be my first MSI too so that'll be a new experience and hopefully, we'll do really well.”
When asked if his team would be bringing out some of these crazy drafts and strats against international opponents, the top-laner said: “There's a lot of picks that we've been sitting on for a while that we didn't actually get to bring out,” he added carefully. “For me, in particular, there are some stylish picks I have prepared. It should probably stay a secret for MSI."
After winning the much deserved Finals MVP Award, Wunder and his team will celebrate for a brief moment, but they will get back to work right away. G2 Esports’ founder said that the team will head to China immediately to begin their boot-camp.
MSI is set to begin at the start of May and will feature the teams that win their region from all major pro-leagues across the globe.
Do you think this G2 Esports has what it takes to finally make a huge splash at MSI 2019? With Wunder on his game, we think they might.
