Team Liquid Wins Intel Extreme Masters Sydney 2019

All of the talks around Team Liquid lately seems to be in the League of Legends camp, but the franchise is dominating all over the globe on many different competitive games. This weekend marked the finale of the Intel Extreme Masters in Sydney with ESL, and the dramatic conclusion will be one to remember for all involved.

Team Liquid hasn’t won a  premier event in over a year but has consistently placed near or at the top of the pile in almost every tournament for the past few years. Their opponents, in Fnatic, haven’t won since the PLG Grand Slam in December of 2018, and it was almost a year before that since any gold was taken.

While Team Liquid looked extremely dominant throughout IEM Sydney (they destroyed BIG, Ninjas in Pyjamas, and MIBR) on their way to the finals, Fnatic had to fight through the Losers Bracket. Surprisingly, Fnatic managed to take TL all the way to game 5 in their grand finals series, and that’s a grand accomplishment.

On the back of some absolutely stellar pistol play and fragging by Team Liquid’s Twistzz, the championship match might have been one of the best head-to-head best-of-fives we’ve seen in a long time.

The win at the Premier Intel Extreme Masters XIV in Sydney lifts Team Liquid near the top of the crowd in the current Counter-Strike world. That at a $100,000 USD pay-out.

Moving forward in CS:GO, the next big event will be the DreamHack Masters live from Dallas in at the end of May beginning of June. After the results of IEM Sydney, it would be foolish to not think that both the champions in Team Liquid and the runners-up in Fnatic will be making large splashes at DreamHack Dallas.
