Echo Fox Starts Lost and Yusui Week 1 of LCS Summer Split
By Wyatt Fossett ·
On the eve of the 2019 LCS Summer Split, beloved underdogs Echo Fox revealed two surprising starters on their Week 1 roster.
The long *sarcasm* wait is over, today marks the beginning of the 2019 League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) Summer Split. In a surprising move, Echo Fox announced the night before that it would be starting two fresh faces on their roster.
Getting the start for Echo Fox on the LCS Arena mainstage is mid-laner David “Yusui” Bloomquist and ad-carry Lawrence “Lost” Hui.
The Twitter post surprised many Echo Fox fans, because in order for these two to start Echo Fox has to bench two much beloved players in Fenix and Apollo. Leading up to the LCS Summer Split, the only position on the rift that seemed like it was up for contention was the jungle, so the swap at mid and bottom lanes is a but of a shock.
Both Lost and Yusui are listed as Echo Fox Academy players on all roster charts currently, however, Lost has LCS experience. Prior to picking up Apollo after Worlds 2018, Lost got a chance to shine on the LCS stage in the Summer Split for Echo Fox last year. Now, with another Academy split under his belt, it seems he’s getting the nod over Apollo.
It is unclear why -- though both players are talented -- but Echo Fox commented on the subject saying that their roster decisions would be detailed in their upcoming edition of Unleashed (a behind the scenes look at the organization) which has yet to be released.
Yusui is a season veteran of competitive League of Legends, spending time at the Cloud9 camp before joining Carnegie Mellon University’s roster in 2017. Now, it seems he’s primed to take the starting slot on an Echo Fox team desperate to not repeat last splits performance. With Fenix listed as the starter, Yusui has a high level of competition in this fight for a permanent spot.
Fans, for the most part, are split down the middle with their reactions. Lost seems like a much beloved ad-carry, but Apollo and Fenix were projected to be on the roster.
