Are the Golden Guardians Finally Living Up to Expectations?

Week 1 of the LCS Summer Split has brought a lot of expected results, but one that fans may have given up on is finally happening as the Golden Guardians stomp to a 2-0 weekend.

Are the Golden Guardians Finally Living Up to Expectations?

Prior to the start of the calendar year, there was a ton of hype around this current Golden Guardians line-up. After a poor start, a decent middle, and an unfortunate end to their Spring Split run, most assumed the Summer Split would be more of the same, but Golden Guardians look terrifying so far in Week 1.

As their opponents are reeling, the Golden State squad are celebrating an undefeated opening week. In what has to be the most surprising start to the Summer Split, everyone on this team played phenomenal in both of their games this weekend.

With the import of storied European mid-laner Henrik “Froggen” Hansen, the addition of three-time LCS Champion Kevin “Hauntzer” Yarnell, and former Team Liquid’s Kim “Olleh” Joo-sung, there was such high hopes. Now, it seems, those well wishes are finally cashing in.

Olleh, who had a very rough Spring after coming over from a dominant Team Liquid team, seems to have found a better balance in life off the rift, and it looks like it’s translating into how well he plays.

All we know is that Bath Bomb Olleh is greater than the old Olleh.

Today, the Golden Guardians took their second win of the weekend against a very formidable FlyQuest squad. The exact same FlyQuest that knocked the Golden Guardians out of the playoffs last split. Without looking too eager to obtain revenge, the Golden Guardians slowly took over the early game before completely embarrassing FlyQuest in the mid-game.

Week 2 of the 2019 LCS Summer Split will see the Golden Guardians going up against the lost-looking Clutch Gaming team before taking on the undefeated (so far) Cloud9.

If zen Olleh and company continue on this strong trend, there may be a heated competition for the third-place spot in the standings come the end of the Spring Split.
