Greenlit and ReKTGlobal's inaugural San Diego Comic-Con Esports Lounge and livestream were a huge success, drawing over 12,000 attendees and 750,000 viewers.

Over the weekend at San Diego Comic-Con it was more than just comics and movies being discussed. Greenlit Content and esports organization ReKTGlobal were also there to host the SDCC Esports Lounge. In a weekend that saw a number of video game tournaments held, Greenlit also hosted a livestream on Mixer that raised over $20,000 for Extra Life and St. Jude’s children’s hospitals and medical services.
The announcement was made by Greenlit Content in a press release on July 24, 2019. According to the release, over $20,000 was raised by the end of Sunday, July 21. During the entire event weekend, the livestream produced over 41 hours of content and hosted a number of influencers and actors attending the SDCC event. Over 750,000 people tuned in to see a number of gaming events, including runs at Super Mario Maker 2 and prize giveaways for donators. At one point, over 16,000 people tuned in to watch the event and made it the most-watched livestream on Mixer during that time.
The participants of the livestream enjoyed it as well. Mixer Streamer TheLostDrake had plenty of good things to say about the experience.
“My time at San Diego Comic-Con was one of the best experiences I could ask for,” said Drake. “Hosting the official Mixer Comic-Con Channel with GlitterXplosion and the entire team was not only a blast, but the fact that we raised a generous amount on behalf of The Children’s Miracle Network through streaming is humbling,” he continued. “My community, family and friends all came in and showed support and brought so much hype to this amazing cause, not to mention a tear to my eye, exemplifying the generosity and good we need more of in the world!”’
The Esports Lounge proved to be a success outside the livestream as well. According to Greenlit, over 12,070 fans came through the Lounge to play in tournaments and free play on around 80 Xbox and PC set-ups.
“The official Comic-Con Esports Lounge was a huge success during its inaugural year,” explained Bryan Dawson, Head of Esports for Greenlit Content. “Attendees were able to play a plethora of games on PC, Xbox One, and arcade cabinets. They also participated in daily tournaments to win prizes from Microsoft, HyperX, Team Liquid, and Arcade1up. It was a great accent on the 50th anniversary of San Diego Comic-Con.”
Many people probably don’t immediately think gaming when they think of San Diego Comic-Con, but Greenlit, ReKT and other sponsors did their part in making it a natural piece of the weekend’s events. Such as the case, we can likely look forward to more quality gaming additions to the Comic-Con experience in future shows.
