EU LCS Grand Final Match Preview – G2 Esports vs Fnatic

The final series to be played in the final week of the EU LCS, a showdown between the defending champions and the former kings, there are so many stories wrapped up in this Grand Final match between Fnatic and G2 Esports that it’s hard to count them all. Both teams performed well in the regular season, though Fnatic seemed to perform better of the two, and this showdown should prove to be everything we’ve come to enjoy about the EU LCS.

The first time these two teams clashed, G2 managed to gain the early advantage with their early game objective control. Fnatic did fight back, however, and as the game carried on the lead slowly changed back to Fnatic, who ultimately turned a match that saw them behind by 4k gold at one point, to winning by almost 4k gold at the end. Their second clash was a shocker, with Fnatic striking first, but G2 grinding out a lead through the mid game. G2 continued their assault on the Fnatic squad, with seemingly nothing coming in reply. G2 managed to gain a gold lead of over 10k at one point, before a shock turnaround from Fnatic seemed to break G2, and just minutes later they found themselves staring at the defeat sign on their screens. Fnatic managed a rare case of winning the game despite still being behind in the gold lead.

Much like the NA LCS, only three teams have ever won the EU LCS. Fnatic claimed a run of early victories, with their only break coming from the flash in the pan Alliance squad who were quick to disband, while G2 Esports have claimed victory practically since they started their EU LCS careers. With both the current and former “Kings of Europe” facing off once again, we can be sure that this series will be an explosive one not to be missed.
