HyperX Cancels SXSW 2020 Esports Panel Due to Coronavirus

The Esports as a Live Event Entertainment Experience panel from HyperX will no longer be taking place at SXSW 2020.

Thursday, Match 5th saw HyperX officially announce that the Esports as a Live Event Entertainment Experience panel it was scheduled to host at SXSW 2020 has been cancelled. This cancellation comes from health and safety concerns related to the coronavirus. 

"HyperX's priority is the safety of its employees, customers and the local community and is closely monitoring the guidelines released by the World Health Organization, including business travel restrictions to help prevent the spread of the virus," said HyperX in a statement.

The Esports Lounge powered by Shacknews that HyperX is sponsoring and the HyperX Esports Truck are both scheduled to still take place at SXSW 2020. However, the managing companies of these events are still monitoring the latest in health and safety in the Austin, Texas area and at SXSW 2020.

The Esports as a Live Entertainment Experience was scheduled to take place on March 18th. Speakers from ESPN, MGM, Dignitas, and HyperX planned to discuss how esports has become of a significant part of the live entertainment experience in today's world and how competitive gaming would continue to do so heading into the future.
