Rumor: Super Smash Bros Ultimate May Be Getting Castlevania Character

There are a ton fighters on the Super Smash Bros Ultimate roster, but what if that wasn't all of them? The game doesn't come out till December 7, which leaves a lot of room for additions to the game, and with Solid Snake having come back to the game, it would appear that at least one rumor regarding Castlevania characters may have more likelihood than ever before.

It was over on GameFAQs that a user by the handle of Vergeben brought up the possibility of Castlevania character Simon Belmont coming to the game. In mid-May 2018, Vergeben dropped word before the official announcements at E3 that Ridley, the Ice Climbers, Simon Belmont, and much of the previous Smash cast would be returning to Smash Bros Ultimate. Much of that turned out to be true of course, sans the Castlevania character at the time of this writing, but with fellow Konami character Solid Snake on deck, the door is open for more.

Ridley made waves when the space pirate dragon arrived in the Smash Bros Ultimate reveal after years of fan requests. While Smash Bros Director Masahiro Sakurai claimed during E3 that not many new additions would be coming to the Ultimate roster outside of what's already there, there still is the possibility, given the time to release the game and the inclusion of Ridley. Many have speculated that beloved anime character Goku could still make the list, which would be interesting given his prominence in other current and upcoming games like Dragon Ball FighterZ and Jump Force.

It would also be interesting to see Castlevania characters make some kind of appearance given that Castlevania has been a series left dormant in games for quite some years now, outside of Pachinko machines in Japan. That said, the animated series on Netflix is still kicking, having had a good run in 2017 and finding its way to second and third season renewels in 2018, as reported by Digital Spy. It would be nice to be able to sling whips, crosses, and holy water once again and in some form of classic fashion, even if it was relegated to a Smash Bros roster.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate is slated for release on Nintendo Switch on December 7, 2018. We'll share more details on this story if and as they arrise.
