Pokemon Go Announces Beldum for Community Day, October 21

We speculated earlier this month about potentially seeing a Beldum Community Day, and the in-game news confirms that Beldum will be October's Community Day Pokemon!

Pokemon Go Announces Beldum for Community Day, October 21

Earlier this month, we speculated whether or not Beldum would be October's Community Day Pokemon in Pokemon Go based on data found by members of the community. Sure enough, Niantic has confirmed Beldum's place as October's Community Day Pokemon within the in-game news tab and on Twitter:

Attention, Trainers! October’s #PokemonGOCommunityDay will feature the Steel- and Psychic-type Pokémon Beldum, on Sunday, October 21! https://t.co/d9NW6x5gaF pic.twitter.com/cGilE6NFF0

Beldum's Community Day begins at 2PM EST and lasts until 5PM EST in the United States. The "special move" the game seems to keep hidden will no doubt be Meteor Mash, a Steel-type move that is synonymous with, though not exclusive to, Beldum and its evolutionary family. There will also no doubt be an opportunity to see a shiny Beldum, which could be one of the absolute coolest shinies in the game when fully evolved.
Seriously. It's so cool.

Meteor Mash Metagross in the Meta?

As we discussed previously, MM Metagross will be a situational attacker at best, mostly due to Steel's niche type advantages. Steel as an offensive type is only strong against Fairy, Ice, and Rock-types and will lose in the DPS race to Pokemon like Machamp and Moltres. It will, however, be the best Fairy-type attacker, which doesn't really matter until Gen VII releases. Plus, Generation IV will bring two Legendary Steel-type Pokemon, Dialga and Heatran, who will undoubtedly compete with Metagross for the top Steel-type attacker spot. We may also have to consider Meltan, the newest mythical Pokemon revealed, a top Steel-type attacker, but that's currently unknown at this point. It may end up that, after all this wanting and wishing, we're only using our MM Metagrosses for a short time before they are replaced.

Other Community Day Perks

Alongside an increase in Beldum's spawn rate, Trainers will have a few other perks active for Community Day. As always, Lures placed on Pokestops will last for three hours, rather than their usual one. Also, eggs will hatch at 1/4 the distance during the event. That means Trainers should keep eggs out of incubators until the event starts. Once the event starts, though, you'll have an unlimited amount of time to walk those eggs.

This month has been a great one for fans of the Steel typing, as earlier this week, Nintendo revealed a mythical Steel type Pokemon, Meltan, which was seen first in Pokemon Go at the end of Chikorita's Community Day. Haven't seen our new little friend yet? Well, check it out by clicking here!
