Fortnite Player Count Hits 200 Million

It apparently took Epic Games less than two months to create but just over a year since its release, Fortnite Battle Royale has hit over 200 million players. In a report by Bloomberg, they detail how the game has hit 200 million total registered players, a 60% increase from the 125 million Epic Games released in June. To put this into perspective, there’s currently around 7.6 billion people living on Earth. 200 million is 1/36th of that number. One out of every 36 people you’ll meet has played Fortnite. That is absolutely insane.

The retention rate for players is pretty high too. Earlier this month we reported that Fortnite had hit 8.3 million concurrent players, so for 8.3 million out of those total 200 million registered users to be playing Fortnite at any one time is a staggering number. If Fortnite was a country, it would be the sixth largest country in the world.

With all of the microtransactions in Fortnite for new skins and cosmetics, the amount of money Epic Games must be making is ridiculous. Bloomberg writes that Epic raised $1.25 billion in October from an investor group including KKR & Co., Vulcan Capital and Kleiner Perkin. This values the company at $15 billion and would put them in the top 1000 companies in the world by value.

It’s definitely showing no signs of slowing down either, as the game recently launched in South Korea which will undoubtedly have brought in a lot of new players. Season 6 is coming to an end and Season 7 will begin in just over a week, along with the heavily rumoured winter themed map. We’ll be seeing Christmas decorations throughout the map and most likely some holiday cosmetics in the store. Kids are asking for V-Bucks for Christmas in lieu of actual physical gifts, so it goes without saying that Epic stand to make a lot more money in the next month or two.
