League of Legends EU Masters - Quarterfinals Standings & Results
By Wyatt Fossett ·
The Knockout Stage of the European Masters League of Legends tournament is upon us. With Day 1 of the Quarterfinals in the books, let's take a look at the standings.
The best teams outside of the LEC in Europe have gathered to compete for the glory of a region. The League of Legends European Masters is one of the biggest annual League tournaments and draws some of the most exciting gameplay out of the EU.
After a full weekend of Play-in Stage, 4 days of the EU Masters Group Stage, and a bonus day for tiebreakers, we’re finally into the Knockout Stage where the top eight teams from Groups will play in head-to-head best-of-three matches until there are only two teams left.
The EU Masters Grand Finals will take place on April 28th.
Day 1
Misfits Premier Advance
In the first head-to-head of the Quarterfinals bracket during the League of Legends European Masters tournament, the premier league team for the Misfits organization went up against a mighty opponent. BIG put up a heck of a fight in their best-of-three against Misfits Premier and could have easily swung Game 3 in their favor.
With the win, Misfits Premier will move on to far the winner of the MAD Lions and Splyce Vipers match, a tough opponent no matter which of those two teams they will face.
In the end, it would come down to a snowballed game by the Misfits, and a poor engage by the BIG squad, that would see the fall of the German squad.
MAD Lions Go Crazy
The second match of the Knockout Stage was set to be one of the most anticipated head-to-heads of potentially the whole tournament. The very strong looking Splyce Vipers qualified for the Knockout Stage in very dominant fashion, and would easily strike fear into anyone that would cross their path. Unless, however, that opponent would be MAD Lions, who stomped their group in the previous stage.
The battle of Spain would be over rather quickly, thanks to some stellar play from MAD Lions’ Samux in the bot-lane, but it wasn’t as easy as the story the scoreline tells. There were moments (especially into the middle of game 2) where Splyce Vipers had opportunities to turn things around, but the mechanical skills of the MAD Lions were just too much.
Day 2
Leading into the tournament, all eyes were on the premier league teams with popular names attached to them. The Fnatic Rising team, the SK Gaming Prime squad, and more. Day 2 of the Quarterfinals would see both of those teams play, but neither would look super dominant the whole way through.
Heavy Favorites Rattle
The first match of the day would see France's Team LDLC go up against SK Gaming Prime and the underdogs would take the premier league's SK team to three games in their best-of-three.
SK Gaming Prime would win the first, before dropping the second game where they looked the weakest. Eventually, they would find their groove again in game 3, where they would find a win and advance to the next stage of the knockout round on their journey to claiming EU glory not only for their namesake organization but for their representing country, Germany.
Ventus Scares Fnatic Faithful
The Ventus Esports that went 1-2 in the Group Stage and then went 2-0 in their tie-breaker to qualify for the knockout stage was supposed to take a grand bow in their quarterfinal matchup against an extremely talented Fnatic Rising premier league squad. Instead, they came out swinging and gave those Fnatic faithful a scare of a lifetime. In relatively dominant fashion, Ventus took Game 1 off one of the favorites to win the whole tournament.
Fnatic's determination and focus would lead to them taking both Game 2 and 3 with ease and advance to the Semifinal round thanks to some poor engages from Ventus Esports. At the end of the day, the VT squad should be really stoked that they made it out of groups in an exciting way before almost knocking Fnatic Rising out of the competition.
Semifinals Round
Four teams from four different countries will make their way into the Semifinals to fight for their right to play in the Grand Finals a few weeks from now. The SK Gaming Prime versus Fnatic Rising match is one you can't miss, and on the other side of the bracket you've got the epix Misfits Premier going up against a stunning MAD Lions E.C. There is still a ton of epic League of Legends to be played before we get to crown the 2019 European Masters.
