LEC's Excel Esports Hires David "DLim" Lim as Head Coach
By Wyatt Fossett ·
In an announcement on their website today the LEC's Excel Esports detailed a mountain of personnel changes to their coaching staff.

As part of the newly restructured League of Legends European Championship (LEC), the Excel Esports organization had a rocky 2019 Spring Split. On the back of that performance, the organization has lost a few members of their coaching staff, but add seasoned veterans as the Summer Split draws near.
Finishing off the 2019 LEC Spring with a 5W - 13L record, the Excel Esports team that houses a whole lot of talent didn’t live up to the medium-level expectations. When all was said and done, the team finished in 9th Place in the LEC and did not have much of a shot at a playoff spot come the end of the split.
In a news post from Excel Esports, the franchise goes into details regarding the departure of Head Coach Josh “Furndog” Furneaux, Coach Petar “Unlimited” Georgiev, and Strategic Coach Joshua “Jarge” Smith.
“We wish Josh all of the best for the future and he will always be a member of the Excel family.” writes Joel Holmes-Darby, Director of Esports at Excel. In regards to Unlimited and Jarge, Holmes-Darby said “They were instrumental in the clear improvement in results we enjoyed towards the end of our first Split and we know they will bring this momentum to their new roles. We will miss them.”
With the vacant spot in the most important role (Head Coach), the Excel organization looked towards Schalke 04, and their Candian-born Assistant Coach David “DLim” Lim.
DLim joins Excel Esports as their newest Head Coach, and brings almost four years of North American League of Legends coaching with him. On top of that, DLim spent the 2019 LEC Spring Split with FC Schalke 04, one of Excels competitors.
“I’m very excited to have this opportunity to work with Excel and build something great with them. I see potential in the Excel organization and can't wait to start working with everyone here," said DLim in the announcement.
Alongside their fresh Head Coach signing, Excel also announced the hiring of Academy Coach Tim “Timkiro” Cho (also from Canada), who joins the EU team after years with North American organizations Team Liquid, Echo Fox, and Cloud9.
Turns out, those Canadians are pretty stellar shot-callers.
In conclusion, Holmes-Darby said “There are likely further announcements to follow as we bolster our performance staff. We are very excited about the opportunities ahead of us and intend to kickstart our journey to the top of the LEC with a superb Summer Split. Thank you to all those who have supported us on our journey thus far, we look forward to continuing to entertain and compete at the highest level of League of Legends esports.”
We look forward to seeing how or what the Excel Esports squad looks like come to the start of the 2019 LEC Summer Split in the next few months. For now, the LEC's Spring Champions in G2 Esports are at MSI 2019 representing their region on the international stage.
