2019's Mid-Season Invitational is here.
The championship teams from every region around the globe have officially descended on Vietnam where the eight teams that qualified for the Play-In Stage will combat for a few spots in the Vietnam Knockout round of MSI 2019.
If you need to catch up on who's playing, check out the complete list of the teams that qualified for Mid-Season Invitational 2019.
The main event has finally begun as 13 teams were boiled down to just 6, set to play a group stage that will decide which 4 teams qualify for the final playoff bracket. Over the next 5 days, the best teams on earth will battle it out in best-of-one match-ups where the bottom two teams at the end of the stage will be sent home.
Main Event - Group Stage
For a complete breakdown of the schedule for the group stage in Hanoi, check out our how to watch MSI 2019 groups guide. There are 5 days amazing top-tier play coming from the MSI group stage ahead of us, so we will keep it brief.
Day 1 - May 10th
G2 Esports would come out o the gate on Day 1 and stun the fans a bit with a fairly dominant victory over SK Telecom T1, but they would later lose to World Champion Invictus. North America's Team Liquid would finish their first day with a 2W - 0L record, but admitedly it was a pretty easy schedule for them.
Day 2 - May 11th
After going up 2-0 in Day 1, the strong looking Team Liquid would drop both of their games on Day 2, dropping to an even 2W - 2L record in Groups thus far. SK Telecom did not look super great in their win against Phong Vu Buffalo, and Invictus continue to maintain the end boss status at MSI.
Day 3 - May 12th
As the Group Stage moves into the latter half, Day 3 brought a whole lot of surprises and storylines. To kick off the day, the North American Kings were picked apart by a lackluster SK Telecom T1, who would go on to lose yet another game to G2 Esports later in the day. That same Faker-slaying G2 would also hand Phong Vu Buffalo their first win of the Group Stage, in a brutally lop-sided domination. Team Liquid would lose their second game of the day to the Flash Wolves, who earlier in the day almost took a game off of the still undefeated Invictus Gaming.
Day 4 - May 13th
With a definitive win over Flash Wolves to kick-off Day 4 of the Group Stage at MSI 2019, the EU Champs in G2 Esports secured their spot in the knockout playoffs. Those Wolves and the hometown Buffalo are both unable to catch up to iG, SKT, or G2 Esports. This means that the pressure on the final day of Group Stage Play will be for that fourth seed into the playoffs. Norh America hopes are still alive, but scary. Their final day will see them play SKT and G2, where as the team only one win behind them in the Flash Wolves will most likely lose to Invictus Gaming, but will almost definitely win against Phong Vu. Meaning, Team Liquid and Flash Wolves may wind up tied.
Day 5 - May 14th
The final day of the Group Stage brought us a handful of surprises, but ultimately a final standings update that everyone kind of saw coming. In what seemed like their only hope to steal a game on Day 5, Team Liquid got wiped by SK Telecom T1. That same Faker-led squad would then go on to hand reigning World Champions Invictus Gaming their first loss of the entire tournament so far. In crazier news, the rather strong-looking G2 Esports from the EU lost both of their games on Tuesday, dropping them out of the 2nd Seed overall.
