LEC's Excel Esports Rumored to Have Added Mickey in the Mid-Lane

In yet another offseason roster move, Excel Esports of the LEC (Europe) is rumored to have added mid-laner Son “Mickey” Young-min to their squad ahead of the Summer Split.

Last week, Excel added competitive veteran Hjarnan to their line-up in the bottom lane, and a week before that they signed some big guns to their coaching staff. With the potential signing of Mickey, they’ve done more to shore up their starting roster.

As of time of publishing, Mickey has yet to be added to the contract database for Excel Esports, so it’s still just a rumor. According to Esporin on Twitter, the mid-laner will be joining the team in Europe despite his unsavory reputation among the competitive League of Legends community.

The 21-year-old South Korean born Mickey began his career in the Chinese region with WE Academy before moving to the Korean region where he played for Rebels, Afreeca Freecs, and ROX Tigers over the span of three years.

In 2017, the mid-laner attempted a breakout in North America, where he would play one split with Team Liquid, before being demoted to the Academy squad. It was there, and his mid-season departure, that would earn Mickey a poor reputation.

Twin Galaxies has reached out to Excel Esports but have not yet heard back from the organization.

Currently, Excel Esports has Fabian “Exile” Schubert on contract as of December 2018, so it’s unclear who out of the two possible options would be the best as a starter. Exile has seen some success as a member of Unicorns of Love, whereas Mickey has a few season top seeds but no actual victories.

The LEC is set to start in the first week of June, and it’ll be extremely exciting to see what line-up Excel Esports decides to dress for opening week.
