Fortnite patch v3.4 brings guided missiles, new limited time mode, fixes and more

It's the weekly Fortnite patch time again! This week, guided missiles are being introduced to the game, along with a new limited time mode, plenty of bug fixes, and more.

Earlier this week, we reported that the guided missile would be the next weapon to be added to Fortnite Battle Royale. That moment has arrived, as the guided missile has flown into the game and is now available for your exploding pleasure. But that’s not all this week. In a very lengthy set of patch notes, read on for some of the interesting tidbits; additions, changes, and long awaited bug fixes.
First up is the guided missile. “Take down forts with a more personal touch”, is the strapline, which implies the weapon will be much more suited for tearing down the constructions of your foes rather than raining hellfire upon their unsuspecting heads. Further down the notes it goes on to state that the epic variant of the weapon does 105 damage to players whereas the legendary one does 5 more for 110, while it does an incredible 1000 damage to the environment. You can’t fly it forever though, as it explodes after 18 seconds, and you’re incredibly vulnerable as you can’t move your character while in control of the rocket, but you can disconnect from the rocket at any time and let it continue on its current trajectory.
In other weapon news, the shotguns have been slightly altered. The infamous pump shotgun, infamous for the now-patched ‘double pump’ trick and capable of one hit kills from close range, can now only be found in the uncommon (green) and rare (blue) variants. The tactical shotgun on the other hand has been taken down a notch, being found in common (white), uncommon and rare variants. Hopefully this will result in less pump-rushers, but with the new heavy shotgun being very powerful too, we think this might not have the effect Epic hopes it will.
In the spirit of Easter, the grenade launcher has been re-skinned to launch eggs, but the rocket launcher unfortunately doesn’t shoot chocolate bunnies. The drop rate for launch pads has also increased by 25%, so you can expect to see a few more people flying around for some faster paced engagements. Welcome back the boogie bomb too, as it;s been re-enabled after they fixed some bugs that were found with it in last week’s update.
Fans of the limited time modes have another new one to enjoy; Sniper Shootout v2 is here, which is very similar to the previous Sniper Shootout, but revolvers have been removed and the hunting rifle and crossbow have been added. If you’re playing with a squad too, forget about reviving any of your pals as downed players are now eliminated instantly. Legendary weapons can only be found in supply drops, and epic ones are only in treasure chests too.
One common complaint about the game is players ‘ghost peeking’, which is the act of peering through the translucent pieces on a building piece when it’s damaged. Epic are attempting to combat that by rearranging “the order in which pieces fall off player built structures as they are damaged”. That other annoying issue where you’ll scope in on a treasure chest and it shows it as unlooted, but as you get closer you realise it’s actually been opened already? That’s been fixed too.
There’s a bunch of other fixes and improvements, including frame-rate and performance fixes when there’s too many people around - not looking at anywhere in particular, Tilted - and any kill from more than 50 metres will now display the distance, even if it’s not with a sniper rifle. Some new skins and cosmetics have also been datamined in the latest update, and you can read all about them here, while here’s the full set of patch notes for both Battle Royale and Save the World.
