Nearly Impossible Mario Maker Level Played 5.3 Million Times

You could be one of the first person on earth to beat this level, but it's extremely unlikely. Sorry.

How does that saying go? Insanity is trying the same thing but expecting different results? What if you tried that same thing almost 3 million times? This insane Mario Maker level may hold the the title of hardest level to beat.

A few days ago, Vice published a story about Lucky Draw, a Mario Maker level made by Phenotype that has a one in 7.5 million chance of going your way. Today, few have officially beaten it, though some 13 or so completions exist on the level. Runners and Mario Maker streamers quickly debunked the finishes, marking the users as cheating considering the “time of completion” recorded.

How is it that the time is so specific? That’s because you don’t actually get to play the level. Mario, who is stuck between two blocks, is incapable of moving on his own. This leaves the plumber’s life up to chance, a 7.5 million to 1 chance.

In order for Mario to make it to the end of the level, Mario must be very lucky. Above the platform of bricks are three segments with two magikoopas in them, at the launch of the level the koopas will shoot a randomizer brick which will produce an item. When those items spawn, they will drop down onto a music block which will bounce down and hit a P Block. If (though when is probably more accurate) the P Block is hit, Mario cannot travel to the end of the level.

Reddit user Sass253 did the math.

“The average failed attempt at the level takes 6.9 seconds, giving a single Wii U about 12.5K attempts per day. The probability of beating the level in one day, then? 0.17%. Ouch.

Want a 50-50 chance of beating it? Start the level, put your Wii U aside, and check it around the 4th of July -- next year. Want a 90% chance of clearing it? Start the level and hope you make it to February 2023 without any power outages.”

Currently, there seems to be more than 5 million deaths on the level. 5,350,000 according to Mario Maker streamer Jaku’s channel. Jaku, has been streaming 4 consoles all playing the level on loop. They are attempting to clear the stage on video before the launch of Super Mario Maker 2. As of time of writing, Jaku supports 1 official clear of the level, with photographic evidence that they say they trust.

Thousands of people are watching Twitch streams -- including Jaku’s -- in their attempts to be the first with a recorded clear on Lucky Draw.
