Misfits Premier Wins League of Legends EU Masters 2019
By Wyatt Fossett ·
Almost a month after the Play-In Stage begun, the EU Masters were crowned today live on-stage at the Leicester Haymarket Theatre.

Heading into the Grand Finals of this year’s EU Masters, the premier team from SK Gaming had all of the votes and most of the fandom. However, it is was the spunky and talented Misfits Premier that had all of the plays and all of the clutches that would sewep the favorites in their best-of-five to become the 2019 EU Masters.
Through weeks of group stages and a strenuous knockout bracket, the two final teams would play on championshipSundayy to see who would be crowned this year’s EU Masters. Even though the matchup wasn’t long, the three games were exciting and filled with some of the best team fights we saw throughout this entire tournament.
Mischief Managed
Misfits Premier mid-laner Adam “Lider” Ilyasov said in his post-match interview that “the team looked a little shaky at the start” but they soon got their grip on the ground and ran through SK Gaming Prime in just three games.
There were moments in the first game (and even a brief window in Game 3) where SK Gaming Prime were poised to grab the reins and shift the swing of momentum, however, the strength and composure of Misfits Premier was just too much for SK in the end.
Lider, the terror in the mid-lane, was such a shining example of skill and execution, while every other lane for the Misfits Premier squad stepped up beyond what anyone could have expected.
Often, in cases like Misfits Premier’s amazing run to the Grand Finals, it’s the team synergy and lack of execution from all members that ends the story just shy of the finish line. Today, however, Misfits proved that the public opinion of the team coming into this tournament was just plain wrong.
SK Prime Time Curse
Other than a victory at 2019’s Summoner’s Inn League Playoffs, the SK Gaming team has failed to claim victory in major competitions on multiple occasions recently. Some would call is a curse, and today’s performance would not go to prove the curse a myth.
Most analysts and fans had SK Gaming Prime to win the Grand Finals. They stomped their way through the group stage, and made easy work of all their opponents through the knockout stage. Unfortunately, nothing was to be had on the day it mattered most, and the SK Gaming Prime team leaves Leicester with yet another 2nd Place finish.
Hopefully, the team can practice up and shake this voodoo that has seen them underperform during championship matches.
The Master Class
One of the most beautiful things about tournaments like the EU Masters is that it brings premier-level players out of the shadows and into the spotlight. Teams from pro leagues (mostly the LEC) pay close attention to the talent on display at the EU Masters.
With some of the most magnificent mechanic we’ve seen in a while, it would not surprise us that Misfits Premier will be picked apart by LEC teams some the 2019 Summer Split, or afterward. Many LEC teams could use a refresh of talents after less-than-stellar performances in the 2019 Spring Split.
What a story...
