Fortnite Mounted Turret Nerf Comes In Wake Of Player Complaints

Epic Games has released a nerf for the Mounted Turret in Fortnite after so many players complained about how overpowered the new "trap" is.

Epic Games aren’t shy of introducing new items to Fortnite, are they? The Mounted Turret was introduced to the game last week and we saw Dynamite added yesterday (although it was removed again less than an hour later!). Both weapons aren’t things the community was asking for and Epic has definitely missed the mark with the Mounted Turret as it’s been the subject of numerous complaints since it was added.

If you’re unaware of how the Mounted Turret works, it’s fairly simple. It’s considered a Trap, so it doesn’t take up any space in your inventory. You place it on the ground and jump in. You can now shoot at anyone from the comfort of your seat, without using up any ammo. You’re hard to hit inside as the hitbox is bugged and you can destroy structures almost instantly. It’s classed as a Legendary item but the spawn rate is incredibly high, so most players will find one in a match.

When Epic reintroduced Dynamite yesterday, they also announced a slight nerf to the Mounted Turret. It usually overheated after 10 seconds of continuous firing but now, it only takes six seconds. The headshot multiplier damage has also been reduced from 2x to 1.5x, which will help somewhat. /u/MrPopoTFS also confirmed that “additional changes” will be made in tomorrow’s v6.31 patch.

In a seperate Reddit post, /u/Alukarulz showed off that with the current spawn rates of Mounted Turrets, the time to overheat reduction doesn’t actually matter that much. They start off with 16 Mounted Turrets in their inventory and when they see a player approaching, they place five of them next to each other. As they hop from one Mounted Turret to another, it demonstrates just why they’re considered overpowered.  /u/JordeyShore makes the valid point that switching from one turret to another is actually faster than simply switching shotguns in your inventory.

Speaking of shotguns, Epic has confirmed that in tomorrow’s v6.31 Fortnite patch, the Pump Shotgun will be receiving a buff. Read all about that here.
